The Information Age of Imaging in Neuroscience

Camera manufacturers love to talk about specifications like read noise, field of view, dynamic range and signal to noise. We are no exception. These terms define our products and yet have little direct relationship to the daily workings of research lab. What is relevant is that recent improvements in image sensor and camera performance enable researchers to capture dimmer signals from fewer labeled proteins, to lower the laser power so delicate samples are spared phototoxicity, to image at high speed and high resolution revealing temporal and spatial detail previously undetectable. The results are beautiful images that are also data rich. And this is why we believe that Hamamatsu camera technology is ready for the challenges facing Neuroscientist in the coming decade. We welcome the information age of imaging and are excited to see what discoveries await.
